Origin:
It grows in the Amazon region, especially in the State of Pará. As well as in Roraima, Amapá, Guyana and Suriname.
General Characteristics:
Light reddish-brown heartwood, distinct from light gray to light gray-brown sapwood, distinct growth rings , straight to reverse grain, medium texture, no luster and imperceptible smell.
Drying:
Fast in greenhouses, with a tendency to moderate canalization, and with a moderate tendency to cracks and medium torsions.
Workability:
Easy to plan, saw and sand, has a bad surface finish.
Durability:
Low resistance to attack by woodcutting organisms.
Preservation:
Heartwood and sapwood very easy to preserve, under pressure, with creosote and CCA-A.
Uses:
Civil and naval construction, furniture, frames, common carpentry, manufacturing of plywood, door cores, frames, baseboards, packaging, slats, beams, formwork for concrete, broomsticks, wooden plates, boxes, crates and others.
